Fertiligent

Fertiligent is an Israeli start-up company developing innovative, intelligent artificial insemination devices. Its first developed product is IQI, an Intra Uterine Insemination (IUI) device.

The Product
Fertiligent has developed a slow-release (several hours) insemination device that enables in-vivo and real time sperm improvement.
The process extends the “window of opportunity” for ovum fertilization by slow release of sperm into the uterine cavity. This prevents loss of sperm by blocking the cervical cavity and following the natural slow release process as performed by the cervix in healthy women. The device is composed of a disposable sperm-adjusted pump, a patented real-time sperm strainer and a catheter. The IQI value proposition is an insemination method with a price similar to IUI treatments and pregnancy rates at the level of IVF treatments.

Medical Background
Intra Uterine Insemination (IUI) is a commonly used artificial insemination technique in which semen is deposited directly into the uterus or the cervix by means of a catheter.
Injection of sperm directly into the uterus has not provided to date significant advantages in pregnancy results as compared to other insemination methods. Success rates are generally 12% - 15%, thus the process requires three cycles or more on the average.
Research shows that success rates improve significantly when IUI is performed over a longer period of time (3-8 hours).

The Market
Infertility affects about 6.1 million people in the U.S. -- ten percent of the reproductive age population - consequently infertility affects up to 20% of couples. The success rate (leading to successful pregnancy) of IUI is ca. 15 % per cycle and of in vitro fertilization is less than 25%.
The fertility services market size in the USA is ca. US $3 billion per annum, and is growing at the rate of 10% every year.
Millions of women worldwide undergo IUI treatment (three or more cycles until success is achieved) at a cost of ca. US $300 – $3,000 per cycle (depending on the extent of medication and medical monitoring required). Increase in the success rates in IUI will save the health management authorities millions of dollars every year. Patients will also enjoy less costly treatments with higher rates of success.

Management Team
Ronnie Klein, M.Sc., Company Director. Experienced manager and entrepreneur in the medical device field.
Shalom Bar- Ami, Ph.D., Medical Director. Director of sperm lab and supervisor of the IVF unit at the Department of OB/GYN, Poriah Hospital, Tiberias, Israel. Dr. Bar – Ami has extensive experience in sperm analysis and development of innovative techniques of fertilization in general and IUI in particular, and in the evaluation of egg – cell (ootyte) quality and embryogenesis.

Requirements

An investment of $700,000 for a comprehensive clinical trial in a leading medical center in the U.S. and search for a strategic partner for marketing.
