How would I write a condensed structural formula for this molecule?

I think it's: CH3(CH2)2 C(CH2CH3)(CH3) (CH2)3CH3

The spaces are not needed

Yeah, that looks about right. I wasn't sure of the correct method for writing alkyl groups of different sizes in those situations.

I guess this is just one of those topics where your high school teachers assume you'll learn it in university, and your professors think your high school teachers have already taught it.
