I just read the notes for lazseeker and it says something about the scaling of extension 1 for extension 2 students. So this year will we be scaled like the 3UA students? I just want confirmation cause that scaling is barely better then mathematics 2unit and will cause my estimate to drop a bit.

Also how come it'll be different this year or was different last year? Some kind of mistake?

for who ever wrote that bit of text about 3u scaling:

Are you sure it scales the same or just taking a wild guess? Did the real BOS say they made a mistake are are you just assuming the scaling should be the same?
Or do you mean to say that your own scaling algorithms for laz seeker is the incorrect one.

Little confusion here...

I have heard that the scaling is meant to be different.

i just read the notebook in the updated laz seeker

the info on the scaling section of the site contradicts what is said about ext1 in the notebook

...confusion is all i need rite now...

I apologise for the contradictions - the information on the site is correct. That notebook in the offline version of the program was written when it was still 'unsure'.

So this year will we be scaled like the 3UA students?

Yes.

Also how come it'll be different this year or was different last year? Some kind of mistake?

A mistake was made last year - an 'unforseen anomaly'. A complete explanation by Prof. George Cooney can be found here.

oh thats bad news for 4u students then =(
i was relying on the 3u to scale me up like it did last year..
but i guess now we will be scaled with the 3u students..
and u get scaled down no matter what mark u get!
unless u get 100..which scales to 100..

That was only what happened last year - it may be scaled up for 2002. Hard to tell. I really don't think you have to worry about scaling too much if you're doing Extension 2.

Just because we're already getting good scaling dosn't mean we still don't want better you know :) Anyway thanks for clearing that up for us. After thinking about it a bit it seems that it won't affect our UAI's like it would have last year scince it would have brought all ppl who do ext2 maths down a few aggregate points. Only those people who don't do ext2 maths will find it a bit easier this year.

well the way i see it
4u ppl do 2units of 3u while 3u ppl only do 1 u of 3u. So overall 4u pll are still better off coz we get scaled for 2 units.
Feel sorry for 3u ppl, all that extra effort juz for 1 unit.

Yeah doing 3unit would make 2unit seem much easier just like doing 4unit makes 3unit seem easier. Besides some uni courses require (reccomend) 3unit so that could be another reason for taking it.

Ahhhh if only there was 5unit so that 4unit could seem easy:)

Yeah i totally agree- a couple of friends dropped 3 unit cos they were only just passing 3 unit (and kicking as in 2 unit), and now they're only just passing 2 unit maths

the thing is with 3 u.
we barely learn the 2u stuff
i've never really learnt the course
but the 2u people like learn 1 topic for 4 weeks.
and go over and over and over it
then they're full happy if they beat a 3 unit!!
and they're like "we beat a 3 unit! We are so good"

arrrgh!
dumbarses , its cos they take like two lessons learning integration of x

but there's also the extra workload that comes with 4u

4U STUDENTS:

4U of hard work, 4U of nicely scaled marks

============================================

3U STUDENTS:

1U of hard work, 1U of nicely scaled marks
2U of easy work, 2U of ordinarily scaled marks

It's fair.
