hello, how can u differentiate between a :

primary standard,

secondary standard,

primary standard solution,

standard solution

hey let me help, say that the aqueous solution in the conical flask is Sodium Carbonate, the solution in the flask(you know, the stuff your acid is titrated with) is the standard solution. I think the primary standard solution is the same thing? correct me if I'm wrong.

Your primary standard is the solid stuff you started with.

Your Secondary standard is the stuff pouring down from the burette or your unknown solution.(usually an acid)

The primary standard is a solid that does not absorb chemicals from the air. An accurate weighing of this powder is used to make a primary standard solution of known concentration.

The secondary standard is originally an unknown concentration solution titrated accurately against the primary standard to determine the concentration of the secondary standard.

A standard solution is any solution where the concentration is known accurately.

Either a primary or secondary standard can be used in a titration depending on the species involved.
