Since a few hang around here (one in particular), thought I'd just extend congratulations to the students who have recently handed in their Honours theses.

Mike particularly finished polishing off his thesis and handed in today - it is an interesting and thought-provoking piece of work, and I think he and others deserve applause for a job well done.

Nice thought Rob :)

Congrats Mike, I'm so happy for you! I would like to read it... maybe you should publish it on here? :)

Steve finished his thesis last Monday (the 13th; he's been counting down the days since January!) which was very exciting for the both of us. Now I have my normal, happy, funny partner back which is just lovely!

So Mike, would you recommend doing the Honours year to other students? I know Steve's answer to this, but would be interested to hear whether its a globally-shared hatred ;)

Rofl.

Thanks Rob and grats to Steve and other Honours students. Had a bit of a blinder last night to celebrate haha.

Umm, to do honours or not...

I think that despite all my whining and apparent hatred for it, I would still recommend doing it. But some advice:

- Learn when to cut off your research...adding new articles on the day of submission is not good practice.
- Make sure you are passionate or have a genuine interest in what you're investigating, you will grow to hate it at times, so you need a reminder of why you're doing it.
- Get some sleep, do not do what I did and not sleep for days on end.

Once I got to writing the conclusions and whatnot, it was actually quite easy to fill out the 12-15000 words. It is only 2-3 major essays in undergrad so it's not that scary. The part that got me was where to cut off that research, it isn't a PhD, but I think I went in with that attitude.

There are probably a bunch of mistakes in mine but I am not reading through 18,000 words to try and find them... hopefully my supervisor will catch them.

congrats Mike and Steve. Now you can relax :)

(Mike: In your 'tips' you should also have added: 'Get ethics out of the way ASAP' :))
