x^2 / 2 + y^2 / 3 =1



Sketch but im confused because i got the foci to be outside the ellipse.



Please help!

Note that b>a in this case where x²/a²+y²/b²=1.
That would be why your foci are outside the ellipse...

i know that b is greater than a and thus making it a vertical ellipse. but the foci are inside the ellipse. i just saw what i did wrong root 3 = b but (0,1) IS JUST INSIDE IT.

im not sure why u r having a problem
dont u know the formula's

this is an ellipse correct
so u use this formula: b^2 = a^2(1 - e^2)

and the foci is S= (+-ae,0)

and the foci is S= (+-ae,0)

Foci are (0,+/-ae) in this case because b>a.
