I missed open day =( So i've been trying to find more info about this course. For diagnostic radiography, i know that you have to stufy for 3 years full time and after that, what is the average starting salary? Also, there would be clinical education so would there actually be contact with dead bodies for examination or blood? Just hoping if somebody who does the course can explain to me what you guys learn or if the course is hard or anything.

Also, is sonography a specialised course which you can do as an extra year with honours?
thanks

im doing radiography atm.
its 3 yrs full time and u get to attend clinical blocks during those 3 yrs. its like work experience that goes on for about 6 weeks each!

average starting salary is about 45 000 (i think, im not 100% on this)

and yes, at uni during 1st yr u'll be doing anatomy which requires u to go lab and come in contact with cadavers (dead bodies) to supplement ur learning- its part of the course.
and trust me, its not as scary as u think. u get used to it. and theres no blood!

the course is pretty full-on. assignments and exams are a constant but its a great course. highly recommended and u're always guaranteed a job when u graduate. radiographers are in demand everywhere.

u basically learn how to take x-rays and everything that comes with it. abit of CT's as well.

u can choose to continue studying and doing sonography after these 3 yrs. its a specialised course.

Where did you hear this?
Nobody wants a PDY. Once you're over the PDY if you can actually find a position though it's all good.

Starting salary ranges during PDY year ranges from 21+ per hour, after that it increases especially if you have one or more modalities to around 30+.

sonography is a Masters degree that u can do after this bachelor of diag rad or anything related.

However, u need to have a job as a sonographer to be eligible for that course.

demand? always a pointless question - in 3-4 yrs time, i think demand for this course will decrease... then again, amount of ppl enrollin in this course and the no. of new hospitals/clinics are not balanced... depends...

and no it does not involve dead bodies and stuff... yes, u do anat pracs in 1st yr where they want u to have a look at cadavers and stuff... but its not a major component of the course

the clinical education blocks require u to go to a clinic and learn how to take x rays/ do CTs, MRIs and all that stuff - practically.

If u like physics, and anatomy and like lil interaction with ppl - this course is good.

hope this helps :)
