Why dont you actually wanna say it? Just be straightforward with him - dont get too caught up in it, and better still, dont let him get too caught up in it... many guys cant put the facts together, and if you're trying to be subtle, they can take it the wrong way... ie, they are most likely to misunderstand what you're trying to say.
