I won't go into it much as I'm pretty busy but read this:

The hypothalamus in the brain is the temperature control centre. It reacts whenver the body's temp goes above or below 37degs.
If the temperature is different to the norm, then the hypothalamus sends a signal to the effectors which try to initiate a response to the temperature change.

Heat production:
-Metabolism: that's all the chemical processes occuring within an organism
-Exercise

Heat loss:
-Radiation loss of heat in the form of infra-red rays
-Conduction is transfer of heat from body to object (e.g. from body to cold pen
-Convection is the transfer of heat by a moving fluid e.g. body heats up air around it
-Evaporation is sweating.

It's important to balance heat production with heat loss.
The body has two mechanisms that operate to either constrict or enchance the exchange of heat with the environment:
-vasoconstriction is a decrease in blood vessel size, causing less blood to be supplied to the area that's serviced by the vessel
-vasodilation is an increase in blood vessel size, causing more blood to be supplied to the area serviced by the vessel.

Also look up theromregulation. There's a lot of stuff under the sports medicine option
