Which is why I'll be happy to see such activism die a quick death once the SRC has to reform.

Poor organisation = bad turnouts :/

Just randomly SMSing dudes on the day, makes the group small

they had bottles thrown at them

smh @ militant leftists at usyd who feel the need to rip down all liberal advertising, disrupt any liberal activity and so on

edit: did they have sausages :/

what is the official sulc stance on VSU anyway?

support for the removal of universal funding so clubs like ours aren't supported on campus?

I was there - I was one of the first to take photos of the so-called "police brutality", which are now up at www.andrewquah.com.

It was a fucking stand-off. Anti-VSU students marching in one direction. Pro-VSU students forming a picket line across the road. Of course violence was going to happen, and quite predictably it came from a member of the USYD Socialists.

yeah i saw your site
it's quite a melodramatic take
a few people threw bottles at the pro-VSUers
the cops were engaged with a handful of people

your photos are careful not to mention the well supported and peaceful rally that continued for the following 4 hours

my union fees pay for all the venues our music gets played at so.... yeah, its a huge part of our university lives....and you may say "well thats just you"... there's quite a bunch of us at the con...

but no one cares about the con so meh
Phanatical has said before that the CON provides more in fees to the union than it gets back. I'm not sure about whether what he says is accurate, but it seems logical and may be something worth looking into.

SULC could do without union contributions, it doesn't have many social events or free stuff, as far as I'm aware - the odds drinks every now and then.

Pretty much any of the political groups shouldn't need union funding.

Most of the SULC events are drinks nights (free to organise) and meetings (also free). So where's the hypocrisy?

I'm just pleased with myself for taking these photos. I'll update it with a less controversial entry later.

so it's an on campus political group promoting the dismantling of support for other on campus groups
it was established as an extra-curricular university club and wants a university featuring severely diminished extra-curricular activity

you young conservatives are all comedy

I was at the front, standing in the empty space between the pro-VSU picket and the anti-VSU protesters. It was surreal - neither side moving, both sides preparing for war. Then a single anti-VSU protester takes the initiative, lobbying a bottle at the picket before trying to slip into the crowd. He wasn't fast enough, and was pinned down by the two cops, and the rest is history.
