For the syllabus point - identify how the principles of training relate to each type of training, eg how overload applies to a flexibility program do we have to be able to relate all the principles of training to all of the types of training?

Im having trouble with relating
- principle of specificity to flexibility training
- principle of variety to strength training
- principle of training thresholds to flexibility training

That was a question in the 2005 CSSA Trial. My friend lost a mark because he didn't mention training thresholds in flexibility training even though it doesn't really apply.. Just relate the relevant principles of training to the type of training..

For flexibility and specificity you need to target the specific area. E.g. if you want to have more flexibility in the hamstring area then you need to do strectches that apply to the hamstring area, the same goes for arms, shoulders etc

Variety in strength training pretty much means a variety of strength training exercises/methods like isometric, isotonic, isokinetic etc..

Training thresholds doesn't really apply to flexibility so if the question asks "Apply the principles of training to flexibility" then say something like "the training priniciple of training thresholds does not apply to flexibility" or something along those lines...

Hope that helps :)

- principle of specificity to flexibility training
Additional focus on specific muscle groups used in the sport or activity.

- principle of variety to strength training
Body weight resistence, machines, free weights, isotonic/isometric/isokinetic, plyometrics, vary order

- principle of training thresholds to flexibility training
This one is a bit retarted, but in the Macquarie Revision Guide it says:
"Ensure flexibility can be maintained at competition intensity"

Thanks for that :)

Also need help with "Identify skill-related tests that are valid and reliable". I undeerstand validity and reliability but does it mean we actually need to know some specific tests?? If so does anyone have any examples

theres a heap of tests u could use for examples, like the Coopers 12 min run test (tests endurance), the 50-metre sprint test (tests speed), the handgrip dynamometer test (measures strength), shuttle sprints, dribbling round cones, sit-ups, etc.

and theres heaps of others, or you can really make up your own - say your a basketball coach and u wanna test whether your team can dribble the ball - u can make up ur own skills test (like a ball dribbling exercise) to test it. u just explain the test and how well it measures what its spose to measure (validity) and reliability.

strength training thresholds? to develop power in strength you would involve above anaerobic threshold. but is this all you would say for strength?
