In Med sci, we are restricted to only crap electives like COMP, HPSC (History and Philosophy Of Science), MATH, PHYS, and Psyc....

It is called an ELECTIVE and I wanted to do Geos1211 (Environmental Science) and my request for a variation was rejected, as they said "GEOS1211 is not appropriate for medical science degree". Well, Tell me this, How are prescribed electives such as COMP1091, COMP1081, HPSC1500 Understanding Environment, and even Psyc, which I did in session 1 show any MORE appropriateness and relevance than GEOS1211???!! I am sad and disappointed.....:( :(

there's a slight difference here ..... there are 2 types of electives - normal electives and professional electives.
under prof electives, u can choose a subject but only something within a certain set of subjects.
maybe the elective under med sci is a prof elective, which means u dont have as much choice as u think u do

No, but you can request for a variation, which was what I did. but My request was denied because they said GEOS is "not appropriate". So I wanna Know how is COMP and HPSC and PSYC any more appropriate than GEOS which is a BEES subject.

does a variation mean that u can do something outside of what choice they give u?

PSYC, MATH and COMP are all relevent to med. PSYC should be obvious, MATH beacuse you will need to ne able to calculate things on your feet and COMP beacuse all professions are using computers more and more. HSPC makes no sense, however ...

Psyc is not more relevant than Geo... As to comp, it is not even relevant compared to geo.

But if you speak in that sense....every thing is relevant to med....Engineering even...

lol I agree.. using McLake's logic, you could make any subject relevant to med..
In my opinion GEOS1201 seems more relevant to a subject like med sci than say the COMP courses we are given to choose from.

I'm doing med sci too (1st year) and I agree that we do have a really crappy range of elecs to choose from. I was curious to know what electives you were taking up survivor?

At least someone agrees with me. Thank you.

In session 1, I did Psyc1001. But it's not really relevant. it was like doing Society and Culture in the HSC.....
But in session 2, I will be doing HPSC1500 Understanding Environmental Controversy....which is again, quite useless...... *sighs* But hey! at least it's only 3 hpw, which is the only good thing about it. What elective are you going to do? and what elective did you do?

Excuse me, but did you just say that psychology isn't as relevant to medicine as geography/geology is?

You do realise that psychology is the study of the mind (including how it works, chemically) and human social interaction? How is that NOT relevant to medicine?
 the only thing you seem to know is the definition of psychology...you haven't even experience what psyc is like at uni in order to support your claim.... i am not going to bother arguing with you since you are not even in psyc1001 to justify what you're saying...
