You dont get credit points as its not a subject, or part of the course. Most people do it for the experience, to contribute in some way, make friends, and, the most obvious, it looks good on a resume.

If you're doing it for the lines on your CV or for the money you're doing it for the wrong reasons.

I think its variable depending on where you stand in the uni... I know head of the student council basically counts as you having done 12 units.
