I take offence at that. When I filled in my tax return I felt a little patriotic swell of pride in that i was doing my bit to help the less fortunate or to build roads or to help a nice kid go to school. I guess some people however don't think the unemployed deserve food, nor do people need roads or does little Jimmy deserve an education.
lol what the hell

When I lodge my tax return, I feel a great sense of GO FUCK YOURSELF GOVERNMENT because I know I'm only getting a small amount of tax back. I look at my pay slip and say go fuck yourself, because the money I earned working is being stolen off me :(

Don't you get a whole heap of government welfare and tax breaks like baby bonus, family tax benefit, etc etc etc

people with children and families benefit most from the tax system

I don't get family tax benefit. I looked in to it at one point and I'm eligible for like, $42 a fortnight or something which isn't worth the effort involved dealing with Centrelink.

Yeah I got the baby bonus, but be reasonable. I've paid more than 4k in tax since I started working, and if the government is offering to give me 4k with no catch, who is going to say no?

I don't know what tax breaks you're talking about. I have to nominate that I have a dependent child when I submit my tax, but as far as I know I've never gotten a "break" because of this.

People with children and families don't really benefit, if these families include working parents who are paying tax, then effectively they're entitled to whatever money they can scam back from the government.

"Working families" are the primary benefactors of the Rudd and Howard government's pork barrelling.

Your tax burden isn't just quantified in terms of payments you get back, it's also used to cover things like roads, public transport, medicare and numerous socialised programs.

I would say that most middle class people pay no tax when you take into account these government services people use.

And as much as i am for limited government and lower taxes, I would suspect that if we gave people back all of their tax, they would be lobbying the government to 'do more'. I really think we have this perception in Australia that we can have it both ways.

Personally, I don't think "revolutionary" is quite the right term for Paul Hogan.

So if I take your money by force, but then use all the money to buy you groceries or something I think you will use, do you break even out of the whole thing?

Hey maybe people like choosing how they spend their own money, rather than the government giving them things they think they might like.

Especially with things like medicare, the biggest losers who get almost nothing back are sensible, healthy people who take good care of themselves.

Move to the US imo. I'm sure you can get some supporters there for your crazy ideas. After all, they are pretty much the only Western country without universal healthcare.

Perhaps that's why politicians from Canada and Europe that don't want to die waiting for the appalling public health care they support all fly to the US to get treatment.

Or because they're all part of the 1% of the Western World who can actually afford surgery in the US.
