Its a fairly simple question, its to do with the CASSA 2004 trial Q23. it says there is 0.1% sulfur in the coal in the and 10million kgs is burnt in the Q... which is 1.0 x 10^10g right?

in the solutions to get the mass of S the multiply the (1.0 x 10^10)g by 0.01% and get (1 x 10^6).

I would have thought it would be (1.0 x 10^10) x 0.1/100 to get mass of sulfur

now is that a mistake or logic to there answer that my simple brian is missing?

im fine with the rest of it. :)

Thanks,
Ben

no your getting the .01% wrong.
remember, when determining the % of something, you have to divide the percentage by 100, that means .01/100 = .0001

i realise that but dont the want 0.1% whcih is 0.1/100 which = 0.001.
they are finding 0.01% multiplying it by 0.0001

ok i looked at the actual question and answer sheet and it seems as if they made a mistake, the question specifies .1% and the answer states .01%
