Baby whale dies in shark net

A baby humpback whale has died after getting caught in a shark net off Queensland's Gold Coast.
A spokeswoman for theme park Sea World said a rescue patrol found the dead whale off Currumbin Beach on the southern Gold Coast around 10am (AEST) today.
Another whale caught in shark nets off Main Beach on the northern Gold Coast last week was freed.
Environmentalists have called on the Queensland government to take down the 11 shark nets off Gold Coast beaches and replace them with drum lines to try and protect migrating whales.
The government says it has to protect bathers.
There have been no shark attacks on netted beaches since the nets were introduced in 1962.
