My response pretty much: Human Trafficking and Slavery
The Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons: Some statistic about increase in number of countries seriously implementing protocol therefore enforcing-->showing increased commitment/changing values.
Criminal Code (Slavery and Sexual Servitude) Amendment Act: Introduction resultes in 13 convictions, 4 awaiting trial. R v Wei Tang (2006) And how the reforms were created to enforce HR-->increased commitment due to intolerance towards crime.
UN.GIFT: Promotion. Stat about 30% in number of countries specifying HT&S as specific offence-->increased political commitment therefore showing non-legal response promoted enforcement of HR due to changing values.

Yeah i linked changing values somehow.

would universal suffrage be correct?
Yep.

I spoke about the abolition of slavery, linking it to the recognition of the value of equality. I think they will accept both the rights that are under 'developing recognition of human rights' and also the contemporary issues people may have chosen. As long as you linked it to values and discussed its promotion/enforcement, you should be fine.

I think the question was geared more towards one of the rights discussed in the 2nd part of the syllabus.
But if you picked a topic that was both, i.e. slavery and human trafficking, you would have been safe easily.

I did child soldiers. I think you could've chosen to go with any because it did not specify.

The HSC markers generally look to award marks wherever they can.
Almost any issue relating to human rights, whether a contemporary issue done in class such as slavery and human trafficking or not, most people should get 4 or 5 marks easily if they filled the space with slightly relevant information.

Toonen v Australia
Human Rights (Sexual Conduct) Act 1994
Anti-Discrimination Act 1977
Crimes (Amendment) Act 1984 & 2003
Surrogacy Act 2010
Adoption Amendment (Same Sex Couples) Act 2010 etc etc that's fine?

Since they didn't specify, you were allowed to speak about a human rights issue (slavery, trade unionism etc) or a contemporary human rights issue (child soldiers etc)- legal teacher verified.

Yeah that's more than enough.

Ensure you talked about promotion as well though, so non-legal responses through media etc

(tbh I dont know how you talked about all those statutes adequately within the lines lol)

I'm not sure why so many people found this question difficult

The has a list at the beginning of the topic under the development of human rights:

- abolition of slavery
- trade unionism
- universal suffrage (this is what I wrote about)
- universal education
- right to self-determination
- environmental rights
- peace rights

Some people spoke about child soldiers, I mean sure it fits, but gl trying to show a development in the issue.

That isn't the syllabus list of contemporary issues though– I already posted the list from the syllabus, and child soldiers is one of them.

I chose to talk about the Syria issue in Damascus, and how it was in violation of human peace rights.
