The IPB don't take people to court (however doesn't stop them from getting you back for not paying fines). If they refuse to pardon you, the only other legal avenue is to go to court.

Yeah, but as if anyone is going to go to court over a $130 fine (unless for moral reasons). As has been reported before it will cost you more in court fees.

Court fees range in the $60 range, plus people would like to have the penalty overturned itself and not have a bad driving record/ not lose any points. For many drivers, this is extremely important.

I don't really know about much about this but I would assume court fees and Solicitor/Lawyer fees would be more than $60. News programs are always reporting on the injustice of trying to defend your claim in court.

Don't listen to the news, they pretty much create the problems in our court system with their ranting of absolute rubbish and focuses on the wrong areas.

The truth is, you do not need a lawyer to defend your case for a driving offence, you can represent yourself. And as I said, many people don't care about fines, I certainly wouldn't, I would care about the driving record and would defend for that reason.

Well I would assume that you would have a better chance of defending your case if you were represented by a Lawyer. I would assume that whoever you were up against (RTA, Police, IPB, SDRO, e.t.c.) would have Lawyers on their side. Anyway, I don't really know much about the matter so I will just stop here.

Well not really. A lot of of city magistrates tend to disagree with police (unofficial). If you get prosecuted, it is the police who do it, however the police prosecutors are NOT lawyers, they are officers who have taken courses in prosecuting (e.g. B Policing (Prosecutions)). So if you brought in a QC who specialises in advocacy and courtroom procedure in the Supreme Court, they have a good chance, especially in a local court. All in all, it depends on whether you are guilty or not. But you certainly raised good points and are right.
