think of the number of top students who want to do dent in nsw/victoria. i can assure you there are hundreds. there are 80 places in total between the 2 states at CSU and Latrobe. of course it can go over 99.7.
2009 entry:
Melbourne Uni: 60 positions
La Trobe: 40 positions (ENTER: 99.7) 1st round
2010 Entry:
Melbourne Uni: 0 positions
La Trobe: 40 positions (Enter? PROBABLY up.)
60% Decrease in the total number of positions...

I would be my money on 1st round being higher... :S

Hard to compare different states but for VIC, Melbourne would be better. However, they won't be offering undergrad dent any longer.

La Trobe will be the only one in VIC. As such, it will be the best and the worst. =D

for australia across all states, i would say UMelb was the best followed closely by UAdel, UQ and UWA.
gonna be competitive this year for sure. 80 places for 150,000 VCE/HSC students. of course only a small portion want to do dentistry/have a sufficient score for it. but you never know whats going to happen.

La Trobe has only run its Dentistry course for 2 years. There has been no graduates.
As such, I believe the reputation of all courses from La Trobe is determined by the university's overall ranking (i.e. not very well).

If you receive an offer to LA Trobe, you would probably have received another offer from QLD because it is more difficult, ENTER wise, to get into Dentistry in Victoria, simply because there are only 40 places in the whole state.

As mentioned above, Dentistry and Medicine are highly needed fields. Our employment is almost 100%. The only reason it is not 100% is that upon completion, some take additional studying paths i.e. Dentistry then do Medicine to specialise as a maxillo surgeon. These students will be considered as "unemployed".
Other than La Trobe what other places are there for dentistry apps? i heard at WA its only 96 (WATER) or a TES of 383 or sumthin. i also heard at adelaide its 90? can sumone clear up please?

My friend doing dentistry with me is from Perth (WA), his enter was certainly a lot higher than 96 and he did not get an offer.

I don't think you can find Dentistry or Medicine anywhere for less than 98.00 (even so, you'll be looking at either: a very high UMAT or full fee place).

There will always be the exception of 1 or 2 students per yearly intake per uni with an enter of 90 or 95. They are most likely the rural cohort.
