Hmm ok, i was assuming that mrbs had same conditions as bmp.

Well lexi unless u have a crazy interview i think you will end up spending 2 yrs at blacktown hospital, cos only 1 or 2 ppl get out with only one year of internship. Anyway thats 2 yrs of the bond done :)

'Your obligations as a bonded student:
If you enter into an agreement with the Australian Government, you will be required to complete your medical studies and gain a Fellowship as either a general practitioner or a specialist. You will then need to work for six years in your choice of a district of workforce shortage for your speciality. Up to three years of your vocational training undertaken in rural areas can be counted against the bonding period.'

Basically this means that if you choose to go to the country throughout your specialist training (that is as a registar and after your internship and residency), this will in fact count to the 6 years you owe back to the government after you specialise.

Well you see when you say "Sydney" do you mean Inner City or Greater Sydney? Because I know my local hospital (Blacktown) is workforce shortage, and that's where I plan on doing my internship.

After six years away, I very much like the idea of living in my own house, with my family and real food et cetera, being a single ten minute drive to work AND knocking a year off the bond.
I mean greater sydney - i couldn't seriously expect my specialty to have shortage in the city, but maybe hornsby or somewhere a bit further up the central coast. or i could just bit the bullet and get away altogether. It's at least 10 years away after all.
Are you MRBS or BMP lexi? because i can't remember internship and residency years going into the 6 bonded years - i know that you can count up to 3 registrar years (earning the fellowship) if you do them in a rural area.... *totters off to find contract*

Yeah rural, not workforce shortage.

Mervvyn have u looked at the site where you can put in any suburb and it comes up whether its suitable for you to work in or not (i.e. rural or workforce shortage) ?

Hmm nuts looks like I was wrong too.

Oh well, if only registrar and not internship counts maybe I'll go Blacktown anyway. It seems the universities themselves don't actually know the contracts as well as they think, since I've heard of people saying that even rural time before graduation can count (this was Monash).

I'd like that website too. :)

uh not so sure

if you spend a few years rural when you're specialising then those years will count towards the bond

Well that's what I was saying. The universities sometimes say that your rural placements can count, but in the contract it says only time spent working in the rural/remote areas or areas of need AFTER MBBS count.
