For general maths..
if u had a top 1% mark (99th percentile) ur mark of 92 became a UAI equivalent of 80... if you had a top 10% mark (90th percentile) ur makr of 82 because UAI equiv = 68....

top 25% (75th Percentile)=75 became 56
top 50% (50th percentile)= 66 became 40
top 75% mark (25th percentile) = 58 became 25!!!!

(in other words... to achieve a result that is worthwhile get into the top 10%..........

isnt it dependent on the state average? and how much beta u get above that?

It's slightly more complex than that, but I suppose you could look at it that way. :) In reality, it's far less arbitrary.

Yes and no... the scaling for a course is determined by how well the students taking that course do overall in all of the courses they're taking (called the academic ability of the candidature). The better they do, the harder it is for the average student to obtain a high rank, and the higher the scaling will be. However, if you're in the top few percent (i.e. extremely far above the 'state average') you're bound to receive a high scaled mark regardless of any scaling that may occur.

Haha, makes you think "GOD DAMN! I SHOULD HAVE TAKEN 2U!". General Maths was hard you know .. all those bloody numbers. (BaH @ financial maths and home loans). :p

Heh, like Laz said "rah rah rah moral is to do well" .. and make sure the course you want to do at uni doesn't have a 2/3/4U maths pre-requisite .. haha >_< Trust me, it's a pain in the arse when you have to pay $500 upfront for a maths bridging course like I had to.

I don't think you can tell from now how the UAI people are going to change the general maths marks. It's a magic formula.

But it is true that you have to get in the 90's to get a good scaled mark. But still...getting 90 in general maths is a great mark to get, but you do have to work hard.
