Who here would like it if Ancient History were divided up, to make things easier to find? I'm not a mod, but I just think it's a good idea...

Societies would be better, because some of the personalities (eg: Hatshepsut) relate to the society being studied (eg: New Kingdom).

Societies. Definetly. That's how I think about ancient and it would make everything easier to find, but are there enough topics to justify splitting it up at all?

i would probably say leave it as it it ... but i dont post here much so yeah .. if you split it up people mightnt read all the threads .. you will probably get my answers to questions if you leave it as a big thing .. and it is fairly easier to find stuff this way ... just do a search

and there is too many options and not enough post to justify splitting it up

just what i am thinking :)

Any other thoughts? I thought this would be more popular: I know I struggle to find stuff I can reply to sometimes, and when I did my HSC (I was under a different name) I struggled to find the stuff that related to me.

Good luck!

I think divide it into the regions because as others have said you can do a couple of topics under one region. Like I have 3 in Egypt my 2 historical periods and my personality.

Ummm...I don't know whether any of you 04'ers know this (and come to think of it, why would you?), but the Ancient History syllabus was changed - from 05 onwards, all AH students have to study a core unit, Cities of Vesuvius: Pompeii and Herculaneum. I guess those pen - pushers at the BOS wanted to bring the Ancient syllabus more in line with Modern (hopefully the introduction of a core will have a positive effect on the scaling of this course!)...and I suppose it IS good in the sense that the answers to the core questions will provide a benchmark, making it easier to compare candidates (this is impossible with the current syllabus, and according to the BOS documents, many teachers were raising concerns that certain societies/periods/personalities were easier/had more scholarship than others, and therefore students studying certain combinations of topics were likely to be unfairly advantaged/disadvantaged). Anyway, wouldn't it be worthwhile introducing a subforum for this topic, seeing as everyone has to do it? As for any other divisions of this forum, like Silvermoon, I just don't think there's enough posts to warrant it...everything's pretty easy to find as it is, because this is a relatively low - traffic board. But if we HAD to divide it, I think societies is the best way to go...after all, isn't that how the syllabus is organised? And I reckon we definitely need a mod...I nominate Magister! She's got a Masters in AH, has been teaching it for something like 20/25 years (many of these at Sefton Selective High), and, as you'll see if you check out her posts, is full of answers to all those tricky questions, can give you exhaustive lists of useful sources and quotes, and has piles and piles of notes that she may be able to post up. What's more, we'll know that any answer she gives is DEFINITELY the right one...who better to answer our questions about AH than an Ancient History specialist with almost three decades of experience behind her? We don't want it to be 'the blind leading the blind' on this forum (or any other forum, for that matter), do we? Gosh, with all my gushing, you probably think I'm her alter - ego or something, but I'm NOT. I'm sure there are plenty of other AH students who can attest to her kindness, helpfulness and generosity with resources ---> I'm looking at you, Angelduck ;) !!!!

I personally feel that if the ancient forum was more organised, there'd be more traffic.

One of the reasons this is the first time I've posted is because it's just so darn hard to find a number of posts relevant to what I study.

Now when the English forums where directed into sub-topics (under other sub-topics) navigation became a lot easier. Plus, activity, so far as I know, remains the same, or is even higher because it's more encouraging to use something when you can actually find your way around.

Oh yeah I heard about that change to Pompeii it sounds really boring to me. Thank goodness I'm not doing it. Plus we did some stuff on it in yr 11.

Yeah I don't think we need a mod here cos there ain't a lot of people on here in comparison to others.

Yeah starlighty I heard about the Board of Studies major plan. If I remember correctly someone told me that a while ago there was a core topic, and then they changed it, and now they're changing it back.

It's all confusing and I don't whether there is an advantage or it's just the board of studies trying to make it seem as if they do something.

I don't think there are enough posts to bother splitting it up. The Core sub-board in the Modern History section has a grand total of 4 threads and 32 posts; people are probably just not using it, even though it is there.

Also, I have nothing against Magister but a mod needs to be not just knowledgeable but frequently active on the board so they can answer questions - Magister has only 19 posts! Perhaps we should let her decide if she wants to be nominated.
