you can use TMPGenc to make it into an mpg then burn that to a VCD using something like nero.

It's just a very standard thought, so don't worry, most computing users who revolves in the Warez scene would be automatically inclined to link the keywords "AVI", "DVD" "Convert" into the category of warez lol...
Akin to DivX, convert, VCD.

Sorry if I completely misread your (legitimate) intentions as to converting DivX to VCD, but understand that there are grey areas between legitimacy and illegitimate uses for DivX files.

What exactly are you converting? a 700MB DivX file? Downloaded through 15,000,000 byte sized rars?

Try to see my point of view here, but again, I know you're not offending anyone, and you're not "experienced in this field" - but there's a difference between converting .BMP to .JPEG for example, and say, .VOB to .AVI compressed using AC3 audio codecs and the latest xvid video codec (daily, nightly or monthly builds).

Sorry if you're legitimately converting DivX to VCD, but anyone could make the same mistake, as is highlighted in another thread. :)

.avi files

it's for his multimedia presentation :D

he needs a short clip that he has found...

and that's why he needs a convertor.
Illegal it maybe, but it's for 'educational' purposes

Where have I heard you say this before? :p
fatmuscle is the rationaliser here, somehow able to legitimise every action on behalf of BOS members ;)

When saying to convert divx to vcd, sounds like warez.
When saying to convert avi to mpg sounds legitimate.

I have a Kodak camera and they're always mov (for the Kodaks) :)

I guess mpg is preferred, but QuickTime is an Apple application.

Speaking of the Apple line, I wouldn't mind a PowerBook G4 :D :p
