Do I need to know about oxidation and reduction for year 12 from year 11? (1 Viewer)

Not in the same kind of way. Year 11 is focused around using oxidation / reduction reactions to explain how electricity (voltage) is obtained in a galvanic cell.

In Year 12 it's not asked in that same kind of way. It's more so about the general definition of what an oxidation / reduction reaction means i.e. it falls into being redox reactions - electron transfer processes.

Oxidation = electron loss
Reduction = electron gain

The only thing you need to know is for the oxidation of alcohols using the acidified dichromate and acidified permanganate chemicals. You need to be able to write the equations for oxidation of alcohols and the reduction equation for the dichromate / permanganate (which is just found on the data sheet) so there's not really much to memorise or a link to the Year 11 oxidation/reduction aside from the simple definition of what they are.

Both

First in mod 7 you learn the reactions

Mod 8 emphasises the importance of physical observations such as colour changes or bubbles forming that can be used to confirm the chemical identity of a compound. In that you learn about changes in the colour of the reaction when an oxidation takes place which indicates that a chemical reaction is taking place.

So essentially you learn the main part in mod 7 and then more of an application in real life in mod 8
