Keep it compulsory

if we kep it compulsory, the government could rightfully say that a majority of the country voted for them.

Let's put it this way, if voting was optional and only 20% of the country voted, then how could the government say that their rightfuly in power.

hhmmmm. probably going to be labelled an idiot now, but I think we should keep it compulsory.

it's still possible now for a party to get a minority of the vote and get into power, particularly in terms of primary votes as opposed to preferences, but also in close elections.

not that important, it's still better to keep it compulsory

Yes, Howard got into power with a minority of the vote, but he had the most seats.

bottomline guys, whatever your opinion get in and vote just to have your say. Don't think that your vote doesn't count, because it does, even if you are supporting the smaller parties.
