No because standard english aligns terrible compared to advanced, but both scales the same.

But I have to do Standard, if I do Advanced, I'll come last in my whole school cohort (That's how bad at English I am), whereas if I do Standard I have a decent chance to be at least top ten.

Better off to go std if you think you will be better in terms of rankings then.

This is because standard aligns poorly. For example, if you were to get a raw mark of 80/105 on your HSC exam, then this may only align to a final exam mark of 80/100. However, in advanced english a raw mark of 80/105 on your HSC, could align to a final mark of 90/100.

Hence why there is a deficiency for the top band in std english.

To get band 6 in english standard, you would be better than about 50% of all advance students

That's not so bad. I can deal with that. I will be much better in terms of ranking in Standard than Advanced, because everyone will pretty much be in the same boat (dislike English), if I do Advanced everyone will be very good and far ahead of me, and as a result my ranks will suffer and so will my ATAR.

NO DONT DO STANDARD. Standard is almost the same difficulty as advanced. The only real difference between the two is in advanced, you will study more diffcult texts. Otherwise, the difficulty of the essay questions which you will get in the HSC and on your trials is about equal for both standard and advanced. Also, both standard and advanced sit the exact same exam on the HSC for paper one. That means 45 marks out of 105 in the HSC are common to all students.

But I'm terrible at English. How is coming last in Adv English going to help my ATAR? And when I say terrible, I mean HORRIBLE. Like, if it wasn't cumpulsory, I wouldn't do it not even if someone held a gun to my head. My ranks will suffer big time in Adv English.

Protract, there is always a chance you will improve. Standard is not that much easier then advanced. Look, choosing advanced cant hurt you. Do it for the first two terms of Year 11 to see how it is, you can always drop it later. If you do standard, it will be much harder to change to advanced

To be honest, I don't think I'm as smart as everyone makes me out to be....everyone thinks I am smart because I look like it, because I'm quiet, because I never cause any troubles...but really...I'm not, I don't think so. And ppl on the internet think I have something special for some reason....
