some fail, but not that much, surely you can get 60/120 with no problems. i think most ppl avg between 70-80 out of 120

According to Jeff Geha's book, from the period 1998 to 1988 the highest average raw mark was 68/120, and the lowest average was around 48/120. So I doubt ppl average around 70-80 each year, the tests haven't changed that much.

From my knowledge the average is usually between 55-60 out of 120. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I was referring to the raw mark average, so the band descriptors don't really mean much. Although it does indicate that the average mark each year will most likely align to a band E3 (over half of canditure got band E3). Therefore anywhere between 50 and 70 out of 120 will probly be a band E3.

Actually only about 18% of the canditure got lower than a band E3 back in 2003, and almost a third got a band E4.

According to SAM, a band E3 cut-off is 70 aligned, and E4 is 90.

there was one year were a raw mark in the 50's got you a band E4
i highly doubt it happens now, my teacher reckons 70-75 should get you a E4
