redfern is hardly that dodgy in the middle of the day anyways, unless you're thinking about chilling at 'the block' for a bit on the way.

lawyers lose perspective once they enter the corporate world... its either that or living unemployed.... u have to be nasty in business, and lawyers lead the wya... they have the most fulfilling careers in terms of success and money but ethicalli (in the corporate world) u just cant be ethical.... u have to fight dirty, hu knows wat kind of shifty shit goes on in the world... but it sure isnt engineers, health professionals or accountants *laughs* thta leads them... its the lawyers...

noone in this world has the resilience that ur talking about lainee and asquithian - ur arguments for lawyers are like givin them a good fight blah blah, but the cases ull be undertaking (as u say urself) have nothing to do criminal law, just one or two in some cases - so y dunt u argue FOR lawyers in a way thats going to be relevant to u in the future, in the corporate world... are u going to stand by ur vlaues come that 100million dollar deal? i dunt think so..... u wunt, because if u do, ull be thrashed to the ground, career wise and ull be left with nothing... so u wunt.... so dunt act all ethical now, because i dunt think u can back up ur values wiht actions come that critical moment....

i have nothing against being shifty as a lawyer, its their job, and they arent harming anyone realli, if people want their services and are paying wateva the layer asks then wat the heck, charge more...

i dno how anyone can say that lawyers arent repected... my grandad used to say that "lawyers are liars" but then wen i told him the course i was doing he replied "i thought u wanted to do law"

i was just like..... sigh..... what hte fuck....

so even someone that doesnt respect the ethics of a lawyer, they respect the law profession more so, and wen they talk to a lawyer, they arent ognna put them down about what they do, they're gonna respect them because of their position (which will be higher for a good lawyer).

the great thing about lawyers is - u need 99.6 to get in (or 99.1 still very high) and that menas that there are geniunly smart people doing it. So yeh, wen u talk to a lawyer in a good job, either they went to a lesser uni and are genius or they went to the top unis and are genius....

but beware, i hear thta the law profession is getting extremely competitive nowadays...

Why do UWS students hate us so much? Is it because we do in fact have the prestige they so desperately yet secretly desire? :p

Yeah I just proved I'm a USyd snob. I never even realised it until I found myself bragging about the sandstone and grass to a UTS student.

However, I firmly believe that if I went to any other University I would feel the same way about that University. So I don't like to call it snobbery, more like supporting my team.

I'll be honest....I'm going to USYD and I'm a snob. Least I'm upfront enough to admit it. I've been a snob for as long as I can remember. I'm not filthy rich, and my parents haven't drilled the snobbish ways into me. But when push comes to shove, I'm a snob. And going to usyd has always been part of it for me. I'd NEVER go to mq or uws, etc. Unless my degree was only at those unis. But then again I was practically forced to do Law at mq but I chose ed at usyd, coz I couldnt pass up the chance to go to usyd. I'm probably stirring trouble at the moment, but least I'm admitting how snobbish I am.

Not ALL usyds' are snobs. Some are and some aren't. Some have to work their arses off to get into usyd and to pay off their hecs, enrolment fees, textbooks etc. and other students are walking into double degrees and their parents are paying their hecs upfront, spending 800 bux on textbooks and the like.

grk_styl, are you referring to snobs (just a social/financial snob) or USyd snobs (a snob with respect to another university)? Sorry, it's just that the above passge does not seem to prove anything apart from that there will always be differences between the students no matter the issue that is being discussed.

It sounds silly, but many people don't have much to be snobby about in their lives and if they get into a prestigious university such as Usyd, i imagine it would feel good to finally have something and be apart of something that others desire.

hahaha okay

I've got to admit, our flimsy laminated paper student id card, and our rockin' organised staff is something to be proud of.

I don't think people who accuse USyd students of being snobby think that it's the actual uni that makes them that way - more that USyd is a 'snob magnet' in a way. :p Snobs of every shape and form supposedly just migrate to USyd after high school. And the people who weren'y snobby to begin with caught onto the whole vibe and became snobby too! :p

Some wankers are snobby about USyd, but if they weren't at USyd, chances are they'd find something else to be snobby about :p

I'm proud that I go to USyd. I like most of the buildings (Transient's craptacularity being an obvious exception,) most of the staff are friendly, I get to do a variety of subjects (the combination of which probably wouldn't be possible at many other unis,) I love the atmosphere and it's close to home, the city and Newtown. It suits my educational and social needs.

But it has plenty of downsides, too. There's an icky mix of paper-only and online-only stuff (but thankfully most of it is eventually going online.) There is too much distance between a lot of buildings. The timetable system is a big steaming pile of shit. There's even linguistics students who start a sentence with 'but' Nowhere is perfect though, and it's about finding the place that suits you best. No place suits everyone, and no place is without its shortcomings. I would be just as proud to go to UTS, UNSW, UWS, or any other uni, TAFE or college. (That's another thing that pisses me off, people who go to uni who are snobby to people who go to TAFE.)

Isn't that sort of thing just as bad as being a snob? Reputation is little more than Viagra for egos.

no, I don't think usyd people are overly snobby.... most that i saw today were just shy. the other male specimines left a little to be desired... but perhaps that has something to do with my degree rather than the general population.
