ok yes i knwo this is another liz has a problem but hey i want your opinion.

I had surgery on Wednesday to remove the nail bed on both sides of my left toe coz its always ingrown. Now i was warned that it would be more painful than the other surgeries but still.

I have been hobbling around on crutches when i have to go out coz it kills to walk on the heel and side of foot. I went to see the doc today for my post op appointment and i mentioned to him that im in excruiciating pain adn that even though a GP gave me panadeine forte, its not helping. I have been putting my foot up as much as i can but thats not helping. On Thurs night it was worse when i had it up than when i had been walking around heaps.

He jsut didnt seem to care that i was in a lot of pain. He just raced through the consultation, ripped off the bandage rather not delicately , and just said ok thats looking good, it just needs 2 bandaids and get the GP to remove the stitches in 10 days, and ill see you in 3 wks.

He was nearly out the door, and i had to call out to him that i needed a medical certificate for the time off, and he just went into his room and i was waiting there, not knowing what to do. He then came back with the certificate and said see you later, and keep it up.

Anothe rthing, when i had the surgery, the anaesthetist came to talk to me as they do before the surgery, and I was expecting a female doc to be putting me to sleep, coz thats what i was told was hapening, so naturally i got a shock seeing a male anaestheist..not that i have any problems with that, as long as they dont kill me im fine lol.
Thing is, when they assessyou, they nromally listen to your chest and heart and this doc didnt do that! I waslike ahhh ok that was a quick assessment..not at all thorough. Sure im a young female, overweight but they are meant to do a proper assessment.

hmmm... i know tat i dun have to do so many things that i use to .. cos its just intuative.. so.. i think its only an issue if u have a bad outcome.

As far as the Gp... hobble to a new one. Don't give a horrible one money :]

Dunno about the sandman... only time I've had aneasthetic (bet I mangled that word) was at the dentist.

Yeah well i have to see a gp anyway to get teh stitches out. I just went to this surgeon coz thats who another gp refereed me to, coz i could have gone to the gp or podiatrist and get more nail removed and more and more and more till i have none, or jus get the nail bed removed on both sides. so i went with him. And coz i was in pain when at work (as a nurs i do lots of walking) i went wtih him. Didnt know who else to see....

The toe is less painful today, thank god, and ive taken off the outer bandage and tried to walk normally but it feels really numb, and stuff, and i guess thats coz the nerves have naturally copped a battering with all the ops. As long as i dont have to have more surgery on my toe then im happy.

oh yeah thats what i wanted to say....there are specialists who have that no gap cover thing and others you have to pay etc. Well when i went to this gp, i asked the cost and he said he doesnt charge me anything coz im a nurse...which i thought he was joking but yeah he seems to be a doc that just takes whatever MBF and Medicare pay....i think a few patients he saw yesterday were in that same situation, which is great, coz im still paying off my oral surgeon, and now have 3 lots of anaesthetists to pay......Thank god my eye surgeon offered to do the no gap method-save me thousands (found out for an eye op, it would be like $12K!!!!!)

yeah i know lots tat offer no gap for allied health professionals.. students and ppl with HCC..

even dentists

Really? Cool, wish i knew that last year when i had a health care card.
My gynae was a no gap doc, hence why i picked her from a list last year when i knew i was going to have to see a specialist..didnt want to go back to the one i had in 06, who didnt care that i had bad complications.

I wish more doctors would be in the no gap system but then again wtih the rising cost of their premiums, and the fact that medicare rebates havent increased with inflation, its not viable for many to do the no gap thing. Wish my oral surgeon had!!

he probably has patients with terminal illnesses to worry about, of course hes not going to care that your toe hurts.

have to admit that the medicare rebates are gettin better ... was looking at the medicare book..

yeah i think despite me feeling lik a c*nt.. i would prolly end up billing lik that too.. cos it just is better but than like not..

Those doctors are awesome. My dad has really bad arthritis, I cant remeber what type but he had a hip replacement and coz he has had so many he had to stay in hospital for 6 weeks + and it was the Mater in Nrth Sydney which is really expensive, anyway my mum went to pay when he was getting out and was worried about being able to pay and they said that she didn't have too because they take whatever medicare and MBF gave them. I think his doctor also gave him a cheaper price coz he had operated on him so many times.

I can't say I've ever had a really dodgey doc, in fact most of mine have been good. Particularly when I broke my wrist and went to a public hospital. Normally you would need surgery but this doc had convinced the hospital to buy this piece of equipment which meant I didnt have to and it was the only hospital in NSW at the time that had one. It basically meant they gave me a local anesthetic while keeping a blood pressure cuff on me for like 30mins till I couldnt feel my hand and popped it into place saved me the surgery like 3 days b4 schoolies.

Wow 6 wks for a hip replacement...poor guy. Most hip replacement patients stay in our ward for like 10 days.. Thats great your family didnt need to pay for that.

I went to a GP today coz centrelink dont take general certificates and the GP said that it didnt look good, and to see my regular GP tmw and get another bloody course of antibiotics.....Im hoping its not stuffedup

had more dodgy nurses than doctors. gosh darn the nursing profession scares the crap out of me.

the only doctors i am mildly wary of are those that speaka no engish, as things often get lost in translation. that said, my current doctor achieved the highest marks in her australian entry exams than any other overseas trained doctor thus far, so she's pretty cool.

Hm not all nurses are dodgy...some old ones are...including a bitch at work who on my 2nd night back, she had finsihed her work and i was full on flat out, and she wouldnt help andi nearly screamed at her.

Hm well my toe had to get 3 lots of antibiotics in the end...starting from the beginning of april. It throbed like hell for about a week but am at work with sneakers on, contrary to health and safety...but yeah. Got the stitches out today and nearly passed out coz they were quite deep and it really hurt...and yet for some reason when teh nurse took a prick of it the other week, i couldnt feel it. It looks gunky and stuff, but i should be able to wear a pair of heels on Saturday nigh.....goin to my work's 50th anniversary ball thingy, only coz oen of the surgeons paid for a table of 10 of us...at last, a doc shows how grateful he is for us nurses and our crap pay lo.

nayway yeah the toe still throbs from time to time, looks icky, but can soak it and stuff now. so sick of tryin to keep it dry with cling wrap and not falling over in the shower lol

just because they are surgeons doesnt mean they cant be dodgy- ive been in an operating theatre where the scrub nurse was giving instructions to the surgeon.

wooo thats pretty scary. The perio op grad coordinator was saying that when she started out, she saw a top notch surgeon who had all the attitude etc, scratching his arse in the middle of surgery and told him off and he had to go and scrub up again.

The toe looks really strange, and the feeling is really strange in it. Im goin to see my podiatrist in July and get a full biomechanical work up and get the toe checked. I cant bend it down, and when i try it puls teh muscles below.
