Does anyone elses class rank matter apart from 1st? (1 Viewer)

Could someone please tell me whether class ranks matter if you are not ranked 1st?

I've heard that the only person who's rank helps them in any way is 1st.. But i'm confused because everyone at my school really wanted to be ranked in the top 5 (apart from meaning that they would have got a better result).

I'm coming 2nd in two subjects (argh so close) and so i really hope its not only rank 1 who can benefit.

Of course rank matters.

Your HSC is 50% exam 50% assessment, but all schools do different assessments, so you can't be compared using that.

So your 50% exam mark is exactly that. Your assessment mark comes from the exam mark that corresponds with your rank at your school. So if you are 2nd you will get the 2nd best exam mark + your exam mark divided by 2.

Not exactly. Standard deviation and class average is also taken into account for the moderated assessment mark. (if you are ranked 2nd-2nd last)
