like if you are do all good subjects but you suck at english and have to resolve to standard does that mean your uai wont be over 90 because of standard english.

my hard subjects include ; chem, phy math ext1 and ext 2

Yeah true, but it's only two units - if you can scrape a band 5 and get band 6 in your other subjects 95 + is possible. Even with a low band 4 you can still get comfortably over 90 with the rest as low band 6s. Look at SAM.

I'm pretty sure standard and advanced English have the same scaling.

I wouldnt say it scales you down, but english is the most important subject in HSC!!! However, get band 4 for English and you get band 5 and band 6 for all other subjects you will be able to get a UAI of 90 or over. Have a look at SAM!!!:bomb:

They scale the same. Someone already said that.

It scales the same. The AOS paper takes care of that. Don't ask me why--I know it sounds counterintuitive but it just does. Two people did Standard English and both of them are in HECS places in pharmacy--i.e. their UAIs would have been comfortably above 95.

if they scale the same then whats the point on doing advance whereas standard is much more easier and less time consuming as advance..

but thou i still believe standard scales you down hard....like if you get 90 they will probably scale it down to about 80?

No, that's aligning . Aligning is simply the converting of raw exam marks into final exam marks. Scaling is what it contributes to your UAI. But since people who generally --and I really do mean generally--do Standard English are not so capable at English, they'd get lower aligned marks which would "scale" them down as the marks are not favourable towards the contribution of the UAI.

I believe that generally the not-so-capable students do standard english thus the lower UAIs are attained by them, but if your doing those other subjects satisfactorally, you should be fine even with the lower scaling of standard compared to advanced
