hi

firstly, I don't do english adv but I think this applies to both standard and advance students.

Say for example, the essay question said to talk about the prescribed text and at least one other related text, but I choose to include 2 related texts instead of 1.

Does this increase the chances of me getting higher marks?

thanks

your chance of getting a higher mark is not depended upon how many related texts you chose. Whether you write about one or two, it will not make a difference. I would suggest, however, that you concentrate on only doing one if you are allowed. by doing this you will have a much deeper analysis and you can show off more knowledge for your text.
but thats my opinion

My teacher strongly advised that if we are said to do 'at least one' other text then only do one.

Unless your analysis is weak and you need more texts to fill pages :p.

In Advanced, you generally have to two

The journeys will be at least two related texts because there is no stimulus booklet

Telling the Truth has asked for two related texts for the past few years running...
