hey guys, i am currently in my 2nd year at UNSW doing commerce/science.. please help me out with my situation..

originally i was planning to internal transfer to straight commerce so i could get out in 3 years and hopefully make it into investment banking and if not i'd stay back to do honours in finance. this is why i've only been doing commerce subjects up until now.. however, i wanted to do a double major and i didin't know what else to major in for investment banking besides finance - i hated accounting..

recently i have been told by various people that recruits often look for graduates who did maths majors. therefore i was planning to do actuarial and finance majors.. but the thing is i have decided on my double major too late. i've already completed all my cores and 6 finance subjects.. if i do actl1001 next semester i won't be able to complete a actuarial major in time.. i can only do an actuarial minor. OR if im gonna complete an actuarial major it'll take me 4 years so i might as well do commerce science and major in statistics in the science field..

so my question is: as an investment bank recruiter, which graduate will appeal to you more: actuarial minor(3 years to complete)/ actuarial major(4 years) / statistics (from the science program) (4 years)

all of those 3 are with another major in finance of course.

sorry for the long winded post. thanks in advance

I would say Finance honours are your best bet, provided you do well.

Do what you will enjoy and wil get good marks for. In many ways, it is not what you do but how well you do it.

Having bad marks because of your actuarial major is worse that having great marks for an easier major.

Subjects / minor / major wont matter too much so long as you can justify why it demonstrates an interest in banking. You already have a finance major which helps you sell yourself
