DOT POINT: process information to discuss possible applications of superconductivity and the effects of those applications on computers, generators and motors and transmission of electricity through power grids.

can someone tell me some info on possiblie applications of superconductivity/effects on computers, generators and motors, transmission of electricity through power grids

and/or provide links to websites that contain information on these points. I have looked around but can't seem to find any relevant info.

THANKS

the main reason superconductor would be considered beneficial for society is that it has zero resistance, and with zero resistance and the flow of cooper pairs without the generation of heat, allows better flow of electricity.
Transmission lines- with super conductors there would be no heat loss from resistance and no loss of energy in the form of heat.
Generators and motors and computers will probably use for the same reason as said above...

you can do some research on internet, hope this helps

Computers - faster switching speeds
Generators - More efficient production of electricity (superconducting generators approx 99.85% efficient where typical generatotrs are 95% efficient)
Transmission of electricity - No heat loss through cables, (P=I^2*R and R=0) therefore more efficient transfer of electricity -- can therfore be transmitted at lower, safer voltages -- negates the need for a transformer

Computer chips: With superconductors no heat is produced and so wires and transistors on a computer chip could be packed much more closely together and with no heat produced, making computing power much more faster.
Generators and motors: The use of superconductors in generators and motors would mean super strong magnets and no energy loss in the coils of the motor or generator. This means that the generator or motor would be 100% efficient.
Transmission of electricity through power grids: When electricity is transmitted through power lines, energy is lost in heat due to resistance in the wires. If superconductor materials were used for the wires, there would be no heat lost from transmission.
