- perform an investigation to distinguish between inertial and non-inertial frames of reference.

would it be enough to say that u used a trolley- that car thing, and observed it at rest, at uniform speed ( INERTIAL FRAME) and when it was accelerating (NON- INERTIAL FRAME)?
or Is that too brief?

yes, but remember you have to do an experiment on the trolley to SHOW whether it's inertial or non-inertial.

aka dropping a coin into a cup.

-A pendulum is tied to the rear-view mirror of a car.
-As the car accelerates, the pendulum can be seen to swing back.
-This is a non-inertial frame of reference.
-When the car is stationary, or is moving at a stable velocity, the pendulum is relatively still.
-This is an inertial frame of reference.

got that from a friends phys notes... I think it covers this dot point pritty well!!!
