I got a casual inclass today on Persian wars - I'd actually never sat down and thought about this even though I came up with some good points. So what would you lot say?

question:
Assess the Athenian contention that they, rather than the Spartans, did the most to achieve the defeat of the Persians in 490-479BC.

That was along the lines of an essay we had to write some time ago- I argued Athens did the most i.e. Themistocles and other naval commanders, Marathon, Hellenic League, and that Sparta only really contributed at Thermopylae (which is most important for the 'Spartan mirage' and has little value in terms of Persian defeat) and Plataea where although that was the battle that really counted it was Athens that put in the hard yards. But then you conclude that Persian defeat was due to both Sparta and Athens' combined effort.
