im not sure if this is the right place to be posting it but it will do for now

anyway, my dad and i were talking today about driving on ur L's (which i have) and he said that it was against the law to drive with more than just the one person instructing you.

i disagreed as i have seen soooo many people do it, whether it be a car full of just one or two more.

so who was right? and is there some kinda of site or something i can back this up on? coz he wont let me drive with like other people in the car...and i REALLY need to get my hours up

anyone know?

Read your licence conditions. You're allowed to carry up to 12 passengers, just like everyone else with a class C licence, given that the vehicle still counts as a "car" and has provisions for seating 12 people.

even though its not illegal, as has been mentioned by optophobia its annoying... trust me, if your dad is instructing you, hes the only person ull want in the car cos if you have ur mum or someone else in there they'll all be telling you how to drive and what to do, and having one person do that is bad enough... :( SO the point is, how come having more people in the car will get your hours up?

oh i dont want a car full of people,i definitely understand how that would be annoying, its just that at the moment i have only done about 10 hours and i can have my P's end of October.... the only extra person would be my younger brother and they (both my mum and dad) were under the impression that there was only one person allowed...hence i havent been allowed to drive places where both my brother and i are going ie school etc etc...the more i drive, the more hours i get and the more experience

hahaha i had it good when i was learning .My dad is actually a professional defence driving instructor. He taught me, my bro, and sister all the special little tricks and things. If i ever drove anywhere, dad would sit in front with me and sueprvise, and mum would sit quietly in the back. she had no place to correct dad with anything he said to me.

Yeh it isn't illegal but remember- when you're starting out, it's probably best to minimise the number of potential distractions/interruptions, and also should your friends be tall, help to give you the best potential view... of course later on it'll be good to practice with a bit of disruption and obstruction, but not when you're new :)

OMG I know what you mean... Dad says keep eyes on road, Mum says you missed the turn which goes to a place which you weren't going... it's a painful experience but one which'll train you to ignore certain distractions!!!

Yeah my mum/dad were like that when I first started out, but now they don't really comment anymore as I'm actually doing everything correctly. :D

I often drive my family around places whenever we go out for dinner or whatever.

I think he got confused between driving on your Ls and driving on your Ps after you have committed a driving offence..

Actually, did that law even pass?

Cos awhile ago there was something going around about how if you were caught for something like drink driving, you were only allowed to have one passenger in the car?

Yeah, having two parents in the car can be annoying... "slow down", "you're going 20 over the speed limit!", "do you know what the limit for this road is??", "you go straight", "no you dont, you turn here"

But yer, I just tell them to shuddup since i'm the driver bwahahah and I think I drive fine.

Besides, I'm always the driver if I'm in the car... so they can booze whenever...

There was a proposal to have a limit of one passenger for L and P platers, it was around the same time as the "ultra high powered vehicle" restriction. Thankfully only the latter was passed, the former is just idiotic.

Hahhahaha I tell them both to shut the hell up... with the threat that i'll have an accident. The thing is, it's only for stupid things like going "too fast" (to get anywhere I follow this country road wthere the limits 80.. its really bendy so i got at 65-70-75 and still mother thinks i'm insane).
Oh and she has this ridiculous thing about me not allowed to go into 5th gear.... I do it anyway ^_^
I've done nearly a year of driving, and 90 hrs later she's still like "zomg you know how to do roundabouts/hillsstarts etc don't you"...
Sigh. At least she's a gem when it comes to helping me reverse parking (Fuck).
