I'm really bad at maths (getting 60's) but kept it just because i think its useful and i'm doing an accelerated subject guaranteed a mid to high band 6 so maths literally will not count towards my atar. I'm also doing really well in all my other subjects my worst/lowest rank is like 20/77 in biology and that's with pretty moderate/minimal effort put into studying- since i didn't see the point in going super hard in year 11. Anyways, what are your thoughts on dropping advanced maths? am i doing myself a service? i think 8 units is a good idea personally given my circumstances but maybe i'm missing some perspective?

i thought you weren't able to complete your hsc without a minimum of 10u in total for year 12?? if you're doing extensions that adds up to 10 then yeah you're probably fine but from what i remember you wouldn't be eligible for an atar w/o at least 10u of hsc courses?

then yeah!! if you don't think you'll be doing any good in adv math just cut your losses and drop it, especially fi you have a good amount of other subjects you know you do much better in. it should free up a little bit more of your time for further improving your other subjects + it's a load of stress for a bad subject lifted from your shoulders (especially when exam times come), so if you feel like the amount of effort you're putting into math to try and catch up doesn't balance out w/ the grades your getting, then your focus is probs much more suited to other places, especially if you didn't really have any passion for maths in the first place

yes drop maths if you feel like your marks are not salvageable and takes too much effort for you AND you think it having only 8 units to work on in y12 will put you in a better position for all of your other subjects in terms of your workload.

since i have 10 units exactly i'm hoping that with all the extra time i'll have i can just focus on really grinding it out for each subject and minimise the risk of getting less than expected assessment marks. Maths takes up a lot of time for me and sometimes i compromise on other subjects i know i'll do well in, its deffo making me a little resentful and i just cba to put effort in anymore when the results are so subpar and will not make a difference to my atar if forgone.

sorry for the rant guys but prelims is stressing me out a bit
