Yes i know that General Maths students will most likely need to know how to do it on a calculator.

I was just expressing my view, the fact that it is so stupid to teach such outdated technologies such as Graphics Calculators. You will never see a Mathematician, Engineer or Scientist reach for their calculator to do SD, they will either use a statistical package such as Matlab, or program the SD routine into their own computer program. Hence I feel that it is stupid to teach students how to do it on a calculate, just teach them the principles behind it.
