I do both, and I can say, economics.
Economics is far more interesting (imo) and actually involved you having to grasp concepts, where as business studies is memorisation of everything- it's a very dry subject.
And yes, it does scale higher

Do not pick a subject based on how well it scales. But yes, Economics scales higher.

Economics scales high, and business scales low. But so what? If you do well in business, you won't be scaled down. Likewise, if you do poorly in economics, you WILL be scaled down. I see that you are the same person asking about scaling in all the recent posts , so i won't repeat myself :p

but yeah, ONLY do subjects that you really enjoy. Come on, like, you're going to have to put up with it for 2 years. The preliminary and HSC course is very different to the SC. The SC is very much like a breeze if you will. You don't have to pay attention to anything taught in class, ever, and still get a band 6 in everything (well, that doesn't mean you don't need to study for it to achieve this unless you're simply too cool). On the other hand, you cover a lot of content in year 11 and year 12. There is no room for screwing around. Economics is economics, business is business. They are two very different subjects. The only thing I know about economics is that you have to write a couple of essays. You should find out more about these subjects before deciding which one you'd like to study. And remember, if you find that you don't like whatever you've picked, you can change to another subject provided that something else you want to do runs on the same time.

You should probably also consider your subjects based on the type of career you'd like to take on after school. :)

Well, with that logic - he/she shouldn't pick "Business Studies" either.

If you like english better than maths then do business, if u like maths more than english then do eco
personally i went for eco and never looked back, the concepts like demand and supply diagrams can be quite interesting rather than blocks of text in business

Both are great.

Economics is harder than business.

Don't base it on scaling, do something you will like.

It is not always that simple. With low scaling subjects, IMO, you have to make sure you do really well, there is an huge difference betwen 80 and 90 raw HSC mark. There is no room for silly mistakes.

No this is the typical assumption that Business studies is an easy subject. Most definitely wrong, Business studies has a large work load in comparison to other subjects. But in comparison to Economics, NEVER EVER!! eco is about 1.5x harder

As stated doing both subjects is highly recommended and most people tend to do both as its beneficial, Many of the topics are similar to teach other. (Globilisation, Finance, Employment Relations)

Trust me doing economics would be benefit you alot in Business Studies. One advantage you would over your class mates is the extra knowledge and information from economics. (Trends and etc)
