Solution to problem 1 here: (forum wouldnt let me attach anything over 97.7kb)

Handwriting is a bit messy but I'm sure you can understand it.

I'll admit it took about 12 minutes to completely get out - in the HSC they will be likely to step you through the process a bit more.

Because one of the roots when you work it out is 0, making the denominator 0, which is undefined. Therefore only 9 roots remain.
