I'm doing early childhood education.
Best book to get to know about everything in early childhood is "Programming and Planning in Early Childhood Settings 2006 by Arthur, Beecher, Death, Dockett & Farmer.

Emergant curriculum is basically looking at children's interests and extending on this with the teachers input.
Regio Emilia is an extended version of this, you still look at interests, but it includes many indepth projects, where you take on the children's ideas and children direct all the learning processes.
