so i know this is a long way off, for most of us, me included,
but i was wondering what's the go with engagement rings.

now i don't believe in the 1/2/3 month pay bullshit.
well i believe in them to the extent of commercialised holidays.
mothers day, valentine, christmas, etc.
it should come from the heart.
that said, it shouldn't be a cheap piece of shit.

ideally it should be a bit more than what you can afford to pay

so my friends/acquaintances who've been engaged has bought/has rings in the range from $3k-15k.

Girls (or ladies if you prefer that), what's the minimum and maximum price for an engagement ring, including stones.

Guys: what's the minimum and maximum price for an engagement ring, including stones you'd pay?

oh.
and what do you think about the 4cs in regards to diamonds?
personally i think cut is more important than carat,

so it goes like this for me:

cut
carat
clarity
colour

i wouldn't go below..

VG

S1
G

except, then i get a very low carat within a budget.
as opposed to, shit everything else, and a high carat.

a 1.01 carat, G, S1, VG diamond would cost like $6-7k

as opposed to

2.09 carat, K, I1, VG cut at $8k-$9k

but i'm not sure i want a diamond.
sure the ones i will buy, would be conflict free
but i feel i have an ethical dilemma of whether or not
i should bring the demand up for diamonds, (blood diamonds included)

You over thought it, mate.
would you prefer one that just looks big and pretty?

or one that sparkles from every angle,
due to the VG cut,
a diamond pretty much colourless,
and a diamond with no inclusions, (unless 10x magnified)

I told my fiance not to buy diamonds, and to stick to btwn $500 and 1k. I guess it's the thought behind it that counts. :) I don't mind what it looks like tbh, in fact, I don't honestly need a ring on my finger to prove myself to anyone.

Apart from not caring about marriage, diamonds irk me something fierce. From a practical point of view they are rocks with drastically inflated prices, but overall I just don't want to aid in the wheels of diamond mining and the horrible shit that happens cos of it turning.

Never even considered prices etc

Assuming you mean don't buy blood diamonds, the whole 'no conflict guarantee' is p much a farce

Think I'll just stick with not buying a dumb rock thanks

Edit: Damn you edit button

kk
I'm 17, and am in year 11. The reason why my graduation is set for 2011 is because that is when I will be graduating! I'm completing the HSC via pathways (completing HSC over 2 years) due to health reasons and hospital commitments.
Make sense?

And ya, I have a fiance.

so alot of you chose under $1k..
when you're a broke college student.. that's still pretty cheap-arse.

for $1k, just the stone, no diamond.

0.65 carat
L, I2.

that's like.. 5.6mm..
and L has a yellow tint.

5.6mm is pretty big lol
is it?

half a cm.

mmm
get a ruler,
and see what half a cm looks like on your ring finger.
(though it'll be different for a girl, cause slightly thinner fingers one would hope ;))

it'll look pretty bad too, cause of the L colour

I am not fussed about size it is only one factor a small ring on small fingers look good, nothing beats in terms of rings then a plain gold ring with a diamond in the middle i like rose gold

Or that fact bimbo's need something to sell off if the engagement goes south.

As my GF says, "As long as its from the heart and from your loved one, we dont mind. Just dont buy me a fucking bracelet with my name on it."
