hello!!! i'm procrasinating studying for paper 2 rn but I've recently been really attracted to usyd's campus and social life and i'd like to pursue an engineering degree. I'm aware that unsw is regarded as the best in engineering and uts of course but i was hoping some currently usyd engineering students would be able to give me some insight into what the degree is like, and why they chose to go there? I asked around at open day and looked at the website but have only received some very general answers, so i'd really appreciate anyones opinions on how the workload, social environment, facilities are; do you feel like the usyd course engages a lot with the future of engineering and encouraging your own sense of innovation, or just a rope learned approach?

thank you so much!

not engineering but friends with usyd engineers so I can help a bit

workload: fine usually, it’ll be a bit intense at times but uni is generally very manageable if ur organised
social environment: great! as long as u get involved you’ll make tons of friends. most engineers are weird asf though ngl
facilities: pretty good generally although a lot of the engineering buildings specifically are in a pretty bad state tbh, they’re pretty old
course itself: usyd is pretty theory heavy so I guess it’s up to you if you like that, def not just rote learning though

oooh thank you so much, very helpful!
yeah Ive been worried abt not being able to relate to other engineering majors, I feel like there'll always be weird people in every degree tho
I heard that mechatronics is maybe the only hands on course? I'm pretty interested in law at unsw & fashion at uts too so a bit conflicted lol

i know nothing of the quality of the engineering degree itself, but i do know that a few years ago their building was overflowing with piss out of the urinals on several floors.
