Hey all.

I've always heard that the contact hours for engineering is one of the longest.

Will someone supply a quantitative answer to the number of contact hours for engineering? I know that it depends on which subjects you do. Let's just say the MEDIAN number of contact hours for first year engineering.

Can you also give some (approximate) contact hours for other courses (e.g. commerce, science) to compare?

Thanks

engineering is usually 20-24hrs a week
science is also around 20-24hrs a week
and iirc commerce is like ~12hrs a week

My first year was 25 in semester 1 and 21 in semester 2.

I think Medical Science is on average longer than Engineering. They have at least 24 hours a semester mainly because of their 3 hour labs.

Commerce is definitely around 12 hours per semester, as well as Arts and Law.

Science is similar to Engineering.

In first year, you have to do a workshop program (welding, machining, etc) at a local TAFE, my contact hours were 28 per week. That was a one off. Most semesters expect ~22 hours, and academics will recommend matching your contact hours 1:1 for personal study. You can often get away with less average study time. Also, expect a large fluctuation in workload, i.e. 4 hours of homework from week 1 and 35 hours of homework in week 12 when all your major assignments are due.
