Whats the difference between a person who does an apprenticeship to become an engineer, and one who goes to uni?

You can't become an engineer by an appreticeship. You're thinking of something else. Unless you mean a sanatation engineer or something (garbo)

Well realistically, the one who goes to uni is what you should consider. Prestige, pay, intellectual stimulation, et cetera.

They would be more like traineeships, where you still have to go to uni and complete a degree.

yeah i think the optus thing's called a 'cadetship' or something of the like ...its more like specific training for what THEY need their engineers to do ... you still need an engineering degree/background to do it or you do it along side uni i think??

Not sure, but you can do it at TAFE also. And the pay is pretty good.

You probably need a uni degree to be a member of the professional association, which as Slide said, has more prestige, better pay etc.
