i scored 97.80, and i'd like to do mechanical engineering, here are my choices:
B mechanical @UNSW, or B mechanical(space) @Usyd,
but the problem is, the 2004 cut-off for unsw was 81.00, i prefer going to UNSW, coz it's said that the engineering courses in UNSW are much better than that in Usyd~
do i have to waste the 97.8 uai to go to UNSW or it's better to go to Usyd which requires 93 for overseas~
anyone tell me? thank u~~~~~ ^^

I wont answer the question because I don't know much about Engineering, but I'll say this: don't ever feel like since you got 97, you need to get into a course that is close to your UAI, the biggest misconception amongst Year 12's is that a higher UAI course = better. That's not always the case, since UAI is based, in simplicity, on supply and demand. So everyone might one day want to get into Bachelor of X at ABC Uni making the cutoff 99.00, but it may not be better than the same course at XYZ Uni with a cutoff of 75.00

yeh minai but hes comparing witht he same degree... b enginering (mechanical) its not like hes comparing with two different degrees... if its the same degree then often goign to the one with a higher uai will be the wiser thing - simply due to the fact that those people may know something more than "I (being the person choosing the course)" does... however... i woudlnt recommend it because software engineering at unsw and sydney were 91 and 94.7 respectively and change to 90 and 86.7.... so yeh...

however i will add that physics and unsw = ultimate so u might consider that wen doing engineering :S

But aditya, how do you know what the quota is for both degrees?? If Uni abc accept 50 students for Mechanical engineering, and Uni xyz accepts 100 (hence a relatively lower cut off), does it make mechanical engineering at Uni abc better becaue of a higher cut off which is determined by many different factors??

thanks guys, alright, i've decided the choice. mechanical space goes first, and mechatronics @USYD second, and mechanical@ unsw is the last one, there are only 3 preferences on the list~ ;)

So... what are those different factors, why USYD reqiures that high uai while unsw actually performs better in engineering.....

cost-demand..
ppl thinks it sounds nice.. especially those with higher UAIs.. lik u :) then they apply for it.. then entry is more competitive.. :D

Yer well my bro is a Usyd engy grad n he concedes that UNSW spends more on the course.. but the Usyd courses with Space are more specialised if u want to enter that field..

UNSW accept more students than USyd in Engineering.

Quota restriction is one.
Some people prefer the uni, not so much the actual course
Some people prefer the location of the uni...
etc
