I keep on hearing that English Standard and English Advanced are scaled identically, but testing SAM out, I noticed that when changing English Advanced to English Standard and keeping all marks identical, the UAI changed slightly. Is this like some screw-up with SAM or are they actually scaled differently?

They are scaled the same.

Your error lay in the assumption that a mark of X in Advanced means the same as a mark of X in Standard.

The marks reported by the Board are not comparable between different courses.

In other words, for example, a mark of 80 in English (Advanced) is not the same as mark of 80 in English (Standard).

they are different due to candiature of the courses and other discrptancies of difficulties of the tests. also most advanced students do better than a majority of standard students and AOS.
