Ive just finished yr 10 and after my SC we split into our preliminary classes. My advanced english teacher told us that next yr the first thing we'll be doing is an Area of study on "Discoveries". We are going to have to do this novel called maestro about some piano teacher and his student (sounds shit). Its by peter goldsworthy.

I was wondering if anyone out there has done "Discoveries" as there AoS and if theyd done this novel. Cause i wanna get a head start on nxt yr!

I advise you not to bother and to enjoy the holidays (we did Justice and Equality for our Area of Study, by the way). You don't sound particularly enthused on the novel, and I think that tasks in the unit will be connected with the novel. So unless you want to read it now as well, go have some fun. And remember: nothing in Year 11 carries over to Year 12. Prelim gives you the basis for HSC work, but in the end, it's just your results in Year 12 that count, and nothing else.

We did Discovery as our AoS, but we didn't do maestro, we did Mosquito Coast

But yeh, don't bother studying for this AoS, useless, just enjoy the holiday

I agree. Enjoy the holidays. Forget the SC. Remember the HSC you've got.
Organise yourself. Dont stress.

Lol, we did "games composers play" in yr 11, and it prepared us quite well for analysing our texts in the hsc journeys module.

I studied Discovery, very boring

everything in english aos is boring. don't bother getting a head start, you'll just be wasting your time. but if you are determined, take texts and analyse them in accordance with discoveries. yes yes, not very interesting at all
