Just wondering what are the possible things that can come out in the writing task for English SC? (as in short essay, speech etc)

Speech, essay, short story/narrative, letter, feature article, interview, editorial. That's all I can think off the top of my head.

There are all sorts they can ask in theory, but they usually stick with a select few.

I suggest you look at some past papers from the last 8 years or so to get an ideas of the most popular text types (not to say you should not be prepared for the less common ones, but that you should devote more time to studying the common ones).

The extended response in English is usually on a topic related to what you have read in the stimulus booklet. They usually get you to write a letter communicating your opinion about an issue to someone else.

Just a list our school gave us on for the past text types.
The first one is the 10 marker, 20 marker. They've pretty much asked a range of things

2007: Interview, Narrative
2006: News report (web page), Speech (formal)
2005: Exposition (magazine editorial), narrative (short story)
2004: Letter (formal), Speech (formal)
2003: Diary Entry, Essay (persuasive)
2002: Review (critical response to a song), Narrative (short story)
2001: Recount (newspaper report), Exposition (letter to the principal)
2000: Reviews (evaluation of a story), Exposition (feature article)
1999: Exposition (letter to the editor), Speech (persuasive)
